Volunteer Opportunities

Gathering supplies is one of the best ways that volunteers can help the children whom Chikondi Malawi serves. Below are the items most in need –  individual donations are welcomed, as are contributions from a supply drive.

New Underwear Collection. The children between 2 and 13 years old could really use new cotton underwear. Underwear from Hanes and Fruit of the Loom are great, or anything 100% cotton from Target, Walmart, etc. Some volunteers have asked about donating socks. Most children in the villages do not wear shoes, so they do not wear socks either.

Used Clothing Collection. Gently used cotton clothing for boys and girls would be appreciated. Lightweight pants, shirts, t-shirts, skirts, dresses and boys’ shorts are ideal. It is a rather conservative culture, so girls do not typically wear shorts or tank-tops.

Pen and Pencil Collection.  The community center will gladly accept pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners and loose paper donations for their classes, drawing and writing. Paper notebooks do not work as well due to weight and sharability constraints.

There are board members and medical students traveling to Malawi regularly, and there is frequently the opportunity to fill a suitcase with contributions. Please contact [email protected] for more details on volunteer collections and coordinating the transport of your donations to a Malawi-bound suitcase(s).

The children and community surrounding the feeding center are so appreciative of any assistance.
